Bronze sculpture cast by Riikc in Soignies, Belgium. Memento mori is a Latin phrase meaning ‘remember you have to die’. Sold to a private collection in Brussels, Belgium.
Process detailed below:
The original materials used to create a bronze sculpture can be anything, as long as they burn well and leave no trace. In this case, I sculpted a wooden geometric structure and anatomical parts made out of wax.
Now,these objects are connected and organized by sprues, in order to make space for the liquid bronze after the mold is created and heated to 600 degrees Celsius. There’s countless sources on how to do a lost-wax casting, so I won’t go into much detail in this post.
There was still some welding to be done after cleaning up the sprues and bronze outpours.
All that’s left to do is add an ammonia patina, and we get a finished bronze sculpture.
